Plastic Surgery

Medical school

• Tertiary study based in a Modified Monash 2 to 7 area, for a period matching the rural origin rule, scores 5 of the 20 rural points.

Prevocational years

• One rotation can satisfy more than one minimum requirement. A 26 week full-time plastic and reconstructive term meets both the plastics rotation and the surgery in general rotation.
• Twelve months cumulative postgraduate work in a Modified Monash 2 to 7 area scores 5 rural points, and holding all three kinds of rural exposure scores a further 5.

Two years before applying

• Referee contacts are drawn from every surgical term in the two years before applications close, needing three to five consultants and at least one senior nurse from each term, so the whole of those two years matters rather than a final rotation.
• An applicant in the final year of a three-year full-time doctorate may draw those contacts from three years instead of two.

Before applying

• Publications and presentations are worth up to 60 of the 220 curriculum vitae points, the joint largest section, and none of it is an eligibility requirement.
• Surgical skills, ethics, management and anatomy courses score under special skills. Operating with Respect, the BASIC course, the burns instructor course and mandatory basic knowledge courses such as radiation safety score nothing.

With the application

• The signed interviewee declaration form is due by the closing date. Without it an applicant can be removed from the process or refused entry to the interview.
