There is no PGY number. The prevocational floor is measured to the February you commence training, not to the date you apply.
Training positions and workforce figures below are limited to Victoria. Selection criteria, requirements and application dates are set by RANZCO nationally and apply in every state.

Total 65 centralised points, before any network applies its own local weighting
The largest single component, and worth more than the whole curriculum vitae review.
It also guarantees a place at the video interview and at the local network interview.
Academic qualification to a sub-maximum of 5, research and publications 4, presentations and posters 1.5.
A referee must have observed you on average twice a week for 10 weeks or more in the last 2 years.
Each network runs its own and weights the 65 centralised points against it however it chooses.

Embellishment is grounds for declining an application. 5% of applications are audited annually, including documents and referee contacts.
The application is non-refundable ($1,890 + GST). Apply only when your CV is genuinely competitive — getting feedback from FRANZCO-credentialled mentors before applying is strongly recommended.

Ophthalmology selects through networks rather than through one national round, and each network interviews on its own date between mid-June and mid-July. Across the eight networks there are 40 to 41 posts for the 2027 intake, the largest blocks being Sydney Eye Hospital (8), Victoria (8 to 9), New Zealand (7) and Queensland (7).
Posts are for February or mid-year commencement.

Queensland Health is the only state department publishing these figures so far.

RANZCO renamed Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) to Asynchronous Video Interview (AVI). Interviews are now pre-recorded video responses, not live. AVI date for 2026 round: April 2026. Check RANZCO website for the next round's AVI date.
2026 application fee: AUD $1,890 + GST (non-refundable). Applications for 2027 training year closed 27 March 2026. Approximately 33 Australian positions across all networks.
