Entry is defined by FRANZCOG progress, not PGY. Applying and commencing are two different bars: to commence you also need Advanced Training eligibility plus the FRANZCOG research component, or full FRANZCOG.
Training positions and workforce figures below are limited to Queensland. Selection criteria, requirements and application dates are set by RANZCOG nationally and apply in every state.

DDU Module 1, Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine
Ultrasound physics, sat outside RANZCOG. A pass gained up to 6 months before starting is accepted. Modules 2 and 3 are encouraged rather than required.

Human genetics lecture course
At least 3 hours a week for one semester, covering counselling, screening, cytogenetics, gene mapping and ethics in genetic practice. Prospectively approved.

Biostatistics course
A university-based examinable course, minimum 20 hours.

Nuchal Translucency Online Learning Program
Certification, not attendance.

COGU Theory Examination
Replaced the written examination, and an attempt at that one counts as an attempt at this. Held annually, 3 attempts.

COGU Clinical Imaging Examination
One set of categories across every specialty, so two can be compared. Only those with criteria recorded for this specialty are shown.
Total 30 points across the written application, 5 for each of six criteria, with a minimum of 3 needed to be shortlisted
A seventh criterion, added at interview: resilience, ethics, grief and counselling, teamwork.

Certification in Obstetrical and Gynaecological Ultrasound (COGU) received 2 applications in the 2019 round for 2020 positions, interviewed 1 and made 1 offer. Across all five certifications the college received 34 applications, interviewed 28 and made 18 offers. These are very small fields — entry is reached from within FRANZCOG training, not from a separate applicant pool.

Queensland Health is the only state department publishing these figures so far.
Queensland Health’s medi-nav publishes selection and workforce figures for primary specialty training programmes. It does not publish them for this subspecialty certification, in any state.
There is no state-based selection round to enter. Applications go to RANZCOG, and are made from within FRANZCOG training rather than after fellowship, so the eligibility and timing set out above are the ones that apply.

The RANZCOG Education Standards Committee revision confirmed COGU on the 138-week entry pathway (with CGO and CMFM), distinct from the 184-week gate for urogynaecology and CREI.
The COGU practical assessment was renamed from In-Hospital Clinical Assessment (IHCA) to Assessment of Procedural and Surgical Skills (APSS) from semester 2 of 2025. The fee schedule still lists the old name, a naming lag between College documents.
