Competencies

• Four domains in the curriculum: clinical approach, presenting problems, investigations, and management
• Clinical approach is history taking, neurological examination, diagnosis and management, and presentation and communication
• Thirteen presenting-problem themes, running from disorders of consciousness and of memory through headache, seizures and syncope, vertigo, gait and balance, movement disorders, stroke, speech and swallowing, weakness, and sensory loss and pain
• Eight investigation themes: neuroimaging, clinical neurophysiology, cerebrospinal fluid, neuropathology, clinical neuropsychology, neurogenetics, neuroimmunology and others
• Management runs therapeutics, neurological emergencies, neurorehabilitation, neuropsychiatry, neurosurgery and vascular surgery, end of life issues, pregnancy, and the lifestyle implications of neurological disease
• Performing and correctly reporting basic nerve conduction studies, for carpal tunnel syndrome and other common entrapment neuropathies and peripheral neuropathy
• By the end: able to deliver unsupervised comprehensive medical care to patients with neurological disorders, at consultant level

To complete

• Core training at accredited settings only, with your individual training program approved prospectively under the Progression Through Training Policy
• Supervisors nominated from the list of those who meet the supervision requirements of the program
• Certification of each training period by the Training Program Committee for neurology, which reviews progress at the end of each rotation or calendar year
• Re-registration every year, by 28 February for the first half or the whole of the year, and by 31 August for the second half

To complete

• An approved non-core training position
• By the completion of training: at least 300 electroencephalograms reported under supervision
• By the completion of training: at least 250 nerve conduction studies and electromyograms reported under supervision, of which at least 150 were performed by you
• By the completion of training: monthly neuropathology sessions attended regularly
• Admission to Fellowship follows a recommendation from the Training Program Committee, so completing the time is not the same as completing the program
