There is no PGY number. Entry is defined by FRANZCOG progress, which typically lands around PGY5 to PGY6 rather than after full Fellowship.

An assessable tertiary course covering epidemiology and biostatistics, at least 3 hours a week for one semester.

DDU Part 1, Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine
Sat outside RANZCOG. The result letter goes to the program coordinator.
Year 1, before the In-Hospital Clinical Examination
Hybrid In-Hospital Clinical Examination
Scanning technique, at your own site on your own equipment. Two examiners, three patients over 3 hours, then report writing. Pass or fail, repeatable, but not within 4 weeks of a failed attempt. Sat between February and November.

CMFM Written Examination
3 hours and 15 minutes, ten short answer questions. Held annually, 3 attempts.

Certification in Maternal Fetal Medicine (CMFM) received 16 applications in the 2019 round for 2020 positions, interviewed 16 and made 7 offers. Across all five certifications the college received 34 applications, interviewed 28 and made 18 offers. These are very small fields — entry is reached from within FRANZCOG training, not from a separate applicant pool.

Queensland Health is the only state department publishing these figures so far.
Queensland Health’s medi-nav publishes selection and workforce figures for primary specialty training programmes. It does not publish them for this subspecialty certification, in any state.
There is no state-based selection round to enter. Applications go to RANZCOG, and are made from within FRANZCOG training rather than after fellowship, so the eligibility and timing set out above are the ones that apply.

RANZCOG updated its Training and Associated Fees Policy to Version 7 (adding payment-plan options). The 2026 CMFM selection application fee is AUD $519 and the interview fee is AUD $2,013.
The RANZCOG Education Standards Committee revised the subspecialty entry regulation (Section C). Application eligibility is 138 weeks of Basic Training plus the FRANZCOG Written Examination and sitting the Oral, not full Fellowship.
