Be specific about your contribution. Don't say “I'm interested in research.” Say “I can lead the data extraction phase and have experience using REDCap.”

Show you understand the project. Mention the specific research question or methodology — it demonstrates you have read the description properly.

State why this specialty and this hospital. Supervisors want collaborators who are serious about the field, not just chasing publications.

Mention your current stage and timeline. “I am PGY3, applying for training in 2026, and can dedicate 6 hours per week to this project.”
